COMMUNITY…COMMITTMENT…ADVOCACY…SERVICE
Those are the values that have informed my life and directed my career.
WHY DO I WANT TO SERVE IN THE KANSAS SENATE?
Hi, my name is Elizabeth Bishop and I’m running for State Senate. I’d like to tell you a little bit about why I have chosen to run for this seat.
I enter this race with the viewpoint of the average citizen who is tired of NOT being represented in Topeka. The Kansas Legislature continues to fritter away their time on narrow agendas appealing only to partisan politics. How long can we wait for solutions to pressing economic, education, and social problems?...While political incumbents waste time and money on non-issues directed by outside interests.
IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE.
Both in my jobs serving the public, and as a volunteer striving to make my town a better place to live, work and raise a family, I have always worked for changes that moved us in a positive direction…toward solutions and toward consensus.
In 1995, I was proud to be a part of the Neighborhood Initiative in Wichita. We came together as a community to address the rising crime rate and to take back our neighborhoods from crime, blight and neglect. As Executive Director of Wichita Independent Neighborhoods, Inc. (WIN), it was my privilege to work with many citizen leaders across the city as we created neighborhood associations, neighborhood watches, and teamed up with Community Police Officers to improve neighborhoods.
From those average citizens who stepped up and took action to improve their neighborhoods—and together—our entire city, I learned the importance of citizen leadership.
OPENNESS… TRANSPARENCY… ACCOUNTABILITY… CIVILITY… INCLUSIVENESS
Those are the qualities that citizens want in the public arena. Join me in stressing those values at the state level, as I campaign for the State Senate.
